Prerequisite: You must be 21 years or older to become an NRA Chief RSO, complete BIT (or BIT current within 2-years), and be a certified Range Safety Officer.

This course is offered upon request, and if there are enough students for a class to ‘make.’ This is the Range Safety Officer (RSO) “Instructor” course and will allow Instructors who successfully complete BIT and this course, to teach the basic Range Safety Officer course.

Sessions include standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises and complete an open book exam. Students will receive NRA Basic Range Safety Officer lesson plans, basic student packet and basic course presentation.

The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. To become a NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

This course is conducted in a classroom (there is no live fire during this course). RSO Candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Procedures (SOPs); range inspections/ range rules/ range briefings/ emergency procedures/ and firearm stoppages and malfunctions.

Note: The RSO certification is required for registered Boy Scout Leaders to serve as a Range Safety Officer at a Boy Scout (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun) Range

Cancellation Policy: Students who cancel their reservation less than 7 days before the class, or “no-show” without notifying Instructors, will not be refunded and will be credited towards a future class (within 6 months, depending on upcoming course schedule, and on a case-by-case scenario).
