NRA Training Counselor

There are 3 steps to become a certified NRA Instructor, regardless of experience:

1. Complete the NRA Basic course (since as an NRA Instructor, this will be the class you will be certified to teach - and the NRA wants everyone to see it as a 'student' first and ensure the standardization of it);

2. Complete BIT (Basic Instructor Training) which teaches you how to teach, how to order materials, how to plan a class budget, NRA Programs, Policies + Procedures, and how to be an instructor ; and

3. Complete the NRA Instructor course.

I will usually teach all 3 parts over 2-days. On the first day we’ll cover the Basic course (which consists of classroom and range time). When we finish the Basic class, those who are continuing their coursework to become a certified NRA Instructor, will continue training with the next portion - BIT course requirements.

On the second day we’ll complete BIT and cover the Instructor course.

After you activate your new Instructor certification, as an NRA Instructor you will be certified and able to teach the NRA Basic course.

Cost includes classroom and range fees, use of firearms and ammunition for the classes.

NRA Credentialing Fees
After completion of the Instructor course, those who are Non-NRA Members pay their first Instructor credentialing fee of $60 to activate their NRA Instructor rating for a term of 2-years, to remain as an active NRA Instructor. Additional Instructor ratings can then be added at an activation fee of $30 per rating, regardless of how many ratings are being added.

After completion of the Instructor course, those who are NRA Members pay their first Instructor credentialing fee of $35 to activate their NRA Instructor rating for a term of 2-years to remain as an active NRA Instructor. Additional Instructor ratings can then be added at an activation fee of $15 per rating, regardless of how many ratings are being added.

At the end of 2-years, NRA Instructor ratings must be renewed to remain "active" as an NRA Instructor.

*Every 2 years, Non-NRA members pay one $60 fee to renew all of their Instructor certifications;

*Every 2 years, NRA members pay one $35 fee to renew all of their Instructor certifications.

You do not need to be an NRA Member to be an NRA Instructor. If you would like to become an NRA member - join here for a discounted membership rate:

The NRA CCW Course exposes students to several schools of thought regarding defensive shooting techniques and is geared toward anyone wanting to improve their shooting skills. Too many graduates of the NRA Basic Pistol course go home, put their pistol in the nightstand, and leave it there indefinitely. Students will be encouraged to train and practice and challenged to continue developing skills by getting involved in shooting activities, joining a gun club, participating in the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program, and/or shooting in competitions.

This course will cover: Firearm safety, selecting a pistol and ammo for self-defense, basic defensive pistol skills, drawing from concealment and engaging targets through a variety of drills on the range.
