BIT is the mandatory Pre-Requisite for NRA Instructor Training Courses.

To become certified as an NRA Instructor, students must complete this course which teaches material common to all NRA courses. This course does not certify the instructor candidate to teach any course. Additional discipline-specific instructor training is required to certify instructor candidates to teach specific courses.

There are 3 steps to become an NRA Instructor, regardless of experience:

  1. Complete the NRA Basic course (since as an NRA Instructor, this will be the class you will be certified to teach – and the NRA wants everyone to see it as a ‘student’ first and ensure the standardization of it);
  2. Complete BIT (Basic Instructor Training) which teaches you how to teach, how to order materials, how to plan a class budget, NRA Program Policies + Procedures, and how to be an instructor <you only have to take BIT once if you take any additional NRA Instructor courses you are interested in within a 2-year period of taking your BIT class>; and
  3. Complete the NRA Instructor course.

I will teach all 3 parts over 2 days.

On the first day we’ll cover the Basic course (which consists of classroom and range time).  When we finish the Basic class, those who are continuing their coursework to become an Instructor, we will next teach the BIT course requirements immediately following the Basic class.

On the second day we’ll cover the Instructor course, which consists of teaching and teach-back exercises of the Basic course, both in the classroom and on the range.

Once you complete your training then activate your new Instructor certification (which will all be thoroughly explained during the training), as an NRA Instructor you will be certified and able to teach the NRA Basic course.

NOTE: Anyone interested in becoming an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor must: be at least 21 years old, be legally allowed to possess and/or own a firearm, the student must be a US Citizen and/or be Legal Resident residing in the United States. NO EXCEPTIONS As per the U.S. Department of State (ITAR-International Traffic in Arms Regulations).

** For current NRA Instructors adding another Instructor rating, you may be required to attend another BIT Course if you have not completed that course within the previous 2 years.

Cancellation Policy: Students who cancel their reservation less than 7 days before the class, or “no-show” without notifying Instructors, will not be refunded.
